Distilled by MGP in Indiana. Aged in Kentucky. Finished and bottled by Jos. A. Magnus & Co., Washington, DC.
Age: Sourced eight- to nine-year-old bourbon from MGP in Indiana. Triple finished in oloroso sherry, Pedro Ximénez sherry, and cognac casks.
Appearance: Dark amber, approaching the color of port, with an oily consistency and long legs.
Nose: Notes of raisin, wood, and tobacco.
Flavor: From a very definite malt syrup mouth feel rise notes of tobacco, leather, almond, tart berries, and currant.
Finish: Long, with notes of molasses and butterscotch.
Conclusions: A standout among craft bourbons, this full-bodied whiskey is worth the premium price point.
Cocktail Recommendation: Old Fashioned, employing bitters—Peychaud’s, for instance—that won’t detract from, or interfere with, the spirit’s complex flavor profile.
