Smith Bowman Distillery is announcing a brand new line of signature gins, called Tinkerman’s Gin, produced by the Distillery’s own “tinkerman” Master Distiller Brian Prewitt.
Smith Bowman Distillery, known for producing award-winning spirits, will be releasing three Tinkerman’s Gin expressions in limited quantities; Citrus Supreme, Sweet Spice and Curiously Bright & Complex.
Prewitt, who has more than 20 years of brewing and distilling experience, has spent many years tinkering with juniper and a variety of herbs, flowers, spices, fruits and vegetables to create the perfect combinations. “We have a big emphasis on experimentation,” says Prewitt. “Great spirits are made right here in Virginia. You don’t have to go to other parts of the world to find great spirits.”
In 2015, the distillery installed a brand-new copper pot still with experimentation in mind. The still, which is named George after the father of the pioneering Bowman brothers, stands adjacent to Mary, the distillery’s pot still, and is complete with a reflux onion, optional gin basket, and attached columns with bubble cap trays. These features allow Prewitt to create many different flavor profiles and a variety of
All three gins were crafted in small batches on the distillery’s custom copper still “George” using 100 percent American grain. The label on each bottle of Tinkerman’s Gin lists the botanicals featured in that expression, along with tasting and distilling notes.
These three expressions are available in limited quantities. Each expression will be released in 750ml bottles, each at 92 proof at a suggested retail price of $29.99. Tinkerman’s Gin launched initially in the A. Smith Bowman Distillery Visitor Center last fall, and will begin spreading to additional markets beginning in early 2018.
